PV Sindhu advanced to the quarterfinals of the BWF Arctic Open 2026 after a comfortable straight-game victory over Japan’s Riko Gunji in Vantaa, Finland, on Thursday. The sixth-seeded Indian defeated Gunji 21-15, 21-15 in 34 minutes to keep her campaign on track at the BWF Super 500 tournament.
The two-time Olympic medallist maintained control through both games and did not allow Gunji to build sustained momentum. Sindhu won 42 of the 72 points played and produced a run of eight consecutive points during the match. The victory also continued her positive record against Gunji, having beaten the Japanese shuttler earlier this year at the Singapore Open.
Sindhu had entered the Round of 16 after defeating Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang 21-8, 21-11 in her opening match.
