Dearest gentle reader, the Bridgerton universe is expanding once again and this time, the story belongs to the family matriarch. Netflix and Shondaland have officially announced a new Bridgerton spinoff centred on a young Lady Violet Bridgerton and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.
The untitled limited series will explore the love story that eventually brought the eight Bridgerton siblings into the world. The announcement arrived on Thursday, October 8, in a message styled like one of Lady Whistledown’s society letters. With Shonda Rhimes returning to lead the project, the prequel will also expand on the family history that has shaped the franchise from the beginning.

The new Bridgerton spinoff will follow the early life of Violet Ledger, who later becomes Violet Bridgerton after marrying Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. The central storyline will explore how Violet and Edmund meet, fall in love and begin the family that becomes the heart of the main series.
In Bridgerton, Violet is the mother of Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. She has spent much of the series encouraging her children to find love while navigating Regency-era expectations. But her own romance has largely remained in the background.
