By-Poll Election Results 2026 Date & Time: As the by-elections for the year 2026 taking place in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Puducherry and Assam have already been done with voting, they have now reached the most crucial phase which is counting. 

On October 6, voting was done in five Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha constituency. The ECI of India has set October 9, 2026, as the day for counting and declaration of results. These elections are significant from a political point of view since some of these seats had become vacant due to change of constituency or party for some elected MLAs/MPs.

By-Poll Assembly Election Results 2026 Date & Time

The key date to remember is Friday, October 9, 2026. Counting will take place in the six by-election constituencies with trends developing with each round of counting. Five assembly constituencies are in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry, while Nagaon from Assam is a Lok Sabha by-election.

The ECI’s counting system records postal-ballot and EVM data through its election-management framework, with Returning Officers responsible for declaring results.

  • Tamil Nadu: Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.
  • West Bengal: Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituencies.

  • Assam: Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.

Turnout was substantial as Madurantakam recorded 83.86%, Dharapuram 78.53%, while Thattanchavady recorded about 78.83%. West Bengal’s Nandigram and Rejinagar also crossed roughly 78%, while Nagaon recorded around 76%participation.

  • EVM counting: From 8:30 AM IST
  • Initial trends: Expected after the first counting rounds, generally during the morning

  • Final results: Expected progressively on October 9, depending on the number of counting rounds and margins.
  • The Election Commission’s current counting procedure provides for postal ballots to begin at 8:00 AM, followed by EVM counting at 8:30 AM.
