Cristiano Ronaldo has addressed his controversial departure from Portugal’s national team camp, insisting that he has no plans to retire from international football. The 41-year-old forward explained his side of the dispute in a lengthy statement to his 679 million Instagram followers, claiming that new Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus broke promises made to him on two occasions. Ronaldo said the disagreement centred on his omission from the team for the Nations League clash against Norway and the failure to publicly clarify the decision, which ultimately led to him leaving the camp.

Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Silence on Portugal Walkout, Reveals Dispute With Jorge Jesus

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally broken his silence over his dramatic departure from Portugal’s national team camp, revealing that a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus was behind his decision to leave. In a lengthy statement shared across 11 Instagram slides, the 41-year-old forward claimed Jesus twice went back on his word, with the dispute ultimately centred on his planned involvement in Portugal’s Nations League fixtures. Despite the controversy, Ronaldo made it clear that he has no intention of retiring from international football and remains available to represent Portugal after serving any punishment imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation.

Ronaldo explained that he had initially accepted Jesus’ plan for managing his workload during the international break. According to the Portugal captain, the coach had told him he would feature in the opening and final matches while being managed physically in between. Ronaldo said he rejected a proposal to skip the trips to Norway and Denmark because he felt his absence would send the wrong message. He also insisted there had been no issue when he was substituted previously, saying he personally handed the captain’s armband to Bruno Fernandes and remained focused on helping Portugal win. “What mattered to me that day was our victory. Winning is always good; in Portugal and for my country, even better,” Ronaldo wrote.
