Dow Jones Today LIVE: The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell sharply on Wednesday, October 7, as rising Treasury yields and higher oil prices pressured Wall Street ahead of the release of the Federal Reserve’s September meeting minutes. Reuters reported that the Dow was down 472.21 points, or 0.92%, at 51,049.07, by 9:43 a.m. ET. The S&P 500 declined 0.56%, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.85%.
The move came after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at record highs on Tuesday, supported by optimism around artificial-intelligence stocks and expectations for a strong third-quarter earnings season. Investors are now reassessing whether elevated oil prices and borrowing costs could keep inflation pressures high and limit the Federal Reserve’s ability to ease monetary policy.
Why Is the Dow Jones Down Today?
The main pressure points for the Dow Jones today are higher Treasury yields, rising crude oil prices and uncertainty over the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook.

Brent crude moved back above $100 a barrel, reviving concerns about energy costs and inflation. Reuters said investors were also watching Middle East supply risks, while higher yields added another layer of pressure to rate-sensitive stocks.
The 30-year US Treasury yield climbed to around 5.72%, its highest level since 2002. Higher long-term borrowing costs can put pressure on equity valuations because they increase the relative attractiveness of bonds and raise financing costs for businesses.

Nvidia, Micron, Marvell Stocks Under Pressure
Technology and semiconductor stocks were among the weaker parts of the market.
Nvidia shares fell around 0.7%, while Micron Technology dropped about 2.3%. The Philadelphia semiconductor index was down roughly 2.3%, according to Reuters. Earlier in premarket trading, Micron and Marvell were also lower.
The weakness comes after technology stocks helped push the Nasdaq and S&P 500 to record levels in the previous session. Investors appear to be taking some profits while reassessing whether higher yields could make richly valued growth stocks more vulnerable.
