By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 7: Repair work on the Myagdi section of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road, part of the Kaligandaki Corridor linking Nepal with China and India, is being carried out at a rapid pace after the road was extensively damaged by floods and landslides triggered by recent rains.
The 202-kilometre Beni-Jomsom-Korala road, which connects Pang in Kushma Municipality-1 of Parbat with the Korala border point with China via Beni, was obstructed at more than 50 locations following floods and landslides triggered by continuous rains from September 24 to 27.
The Kaligandaki River has washed away or damaged the road at 10 locations.
Talking to The Rising Nepal, Tejaswi Sharma, chief of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project, said repair work was being carried out along an approximately 12-kilometre stretch from Kunauta in Raghugunga Rural Municipality-2 to Pokharebagar, the administrative centre of Annapurna Rural Municipality, with the aim of resuming vehicular movement by next Monday.
“We started repairs towards the Korala border immediately after the rain stopped on September 28 and completed the section up to Bhrung-Tatopani in just two days,” Sharma said. “The approximately 25-kilometre section from Maldhunga through Beni and Baisari to Kunauta was repaired by Monday evening.”
