India vs Uruguay Football Live Updates: The India vs Uruguay football friendly at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium began against a surprisingly muted backdrop on Tuesday, with large sections of the stands visibly unoccupied as the Blue Tigers took on the two-time FIFA World Cup champions. Despite the high-profile opposition and the return of Diego Forlan to Indian football, the anticipated surge of supporters did not translate into a packed venue. Videos from inside the stadium showed noticeable pockets of empty seats around kick-off.
IND vs URU: Empty Seats At Salt Lake Stadium Raise Attendance Concerns
The sparse crowd was particularly striking given the stature of Uruguay and the significance of the friendly fixture for Indian football. Uruguay are currently 20th in the FIFA rankings, while Forlan is a familiar figure to Indian fans after his spell with Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League in 2016. The former Uruguay star is now leading La Celeste as interim head coach.
