By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu,Aug.1: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has begun preparing detailed vaccination plans for both public and private health facilities, expanding its previous practice of planning only for immunisation services run through its own Health Promotion Centres.
This aims to identify children who have missed or dropped out of routine vaccinations, improve vaccine coverage, reduce wastage and strengthen reporting across the capital.
According to the metropolis, the plans will cover 22 private and other vaccination service providers operating within the metropolis, alongside its public health facilities. Under the micro-planning process, each ward and health institution will prepare its own plan, which will then be consolidated by the metropolis.
The metropolis is reviewing routine immunisation programmes and the surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases this year. It is also developing plans through workshops covering information on new vaccines and diseases, sanitation promotion, and updates to micro-plans.
In the first phase of the workshop, two groups of in-charges and vaccinators from all Health Promotion Centres under the Metropolitan City took part in two-day sessions on micro-planning and programme review, said Maiya Sainju, public health officer and Immunisation focal person.
A workshop involving vaccinators from 22 public and private vaccination service providers in the metropolis began on Wednesday, she added.
