South Korean shares came under pressure as investors locked in gains after the recent rally, with the KOSPI moving lower despite a record close for the Nasdaq. Rising global bond yields also kept investors cautious about the outlook for interest rates.

The benchmark index had climbed sharply in recent weeks and remained close to the 7,000-point level, supported by strength in technology stocks and optimism around semiconductor demand.

Why is KOSPI falling today?

The decline was largely linked to profit-taking, particularly after recent gains in large-cap technology stocks. Higher US Treasury yields also weighed on sentiment. The US 10-year Treasury yield moved above 5.34%, raising concerns that interest rates could remain elevated for longer.
