By Lalit Basel/ Rajani Yogi, Surkhet, Sept. 30: Karnali Province is not expected to face a food shortage this year, with adequate supplies being arranged ahead of the major festivals.

The Food Management and Trading Company Limited said it would ensure that there would be no shortage of food during Dashain, Tihar and Chhath this year.

Some districts in upper Karnali have traditionally faced food shortages every year, particularly during the festival season. As local production is limited in these districts, residents depend heavily on imported food. This has often resulted in shortages during the festivals, causing difficulties for residents.

Taking this into consideration, the company has transported food supplies to the upper districts ahead of the festivals this year.

Keshav Budha, chief of the Karnali Provincial Office of the Food Management and Trading Company, said food had already been transported to the upper districts of Karnali before Dashain. He said supplies were still being transported to the mountainous district of Humla ahead of Dashain.

Stocks have been maintained at the company's Simkot branch and its depots in Sarkegad and Srinagar.
