Report on flood damage in Rasuwa submitted

By Anil Parajuli, Hetauda, Oct. 9: An integrated report on the human and physical damage caused by the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa has been submitted to Bagmati Province Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar. 

The report states that roads, bridges, government buildings, schools, private homes, agriculture and industrial sectors suffered extensive damage.

According to the report, the preliminary estimated damage amounts to Rs. 5.69 billion to roads, bridges and government buildings, Rs.4.986 billion to schools, Rs. 2.971 billion to industries and commercial establishments, Rs. 526.9 million to drinking water and irrigation infrastructure and Rs. 285.9 million to crops, livestock and farms.

The report was prepared by consolidating information collected from 15 thematic sectors by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Cooperatives of Bagmati Province. 

Provincial Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law and Cooperatives Mahesh Bhattarai handed the report to the Chief Minister during a programme held on Thursday at the hall of the Provincial Centre for Good Governance at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers.

The report states that flooding in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river system caused extensive damage, particularly in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, while some areas of Chitwan were also affected. It records 1,455 deaths, 5,285 people missing and 344 people receiving treatment at hospital. 

A total of 13,795 people were rescued during search and rescue operations, with 20,477 personnel mobilised.
