Much of modern life is organised around achievement. We work for promotions, exercise for better health, and manage our public image. Yet success brings a question that ambition alone cannot answer: how much of what we pursue will endure? Writing to the Corinthians, the apostle Paul uses athletic competition to examine human priorities. “They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever” (1 Corinthians 9:25). His point is not that earthly responsibilities are unimportant, but that they should be measured against eternity.
