Sensex Today: Index Gains Over 600 Points; Banking, IT Stocks Rally, Crude Oil and Fed Outlook in Focus

Sensex Today (October 5, 2026):  The Indian stock market witnessed a steep rally on Monday, October 5, due to the eighth straight weekly fall in both the Sensex and Nifty. This rally got the impetus due to lower crude oil prices and weaker prospects of any sharp rate hike by the US Federal Reserve.

Sensex Today (October 5, 2026): Market Performance 

The Sensex opened at 72,340.95 against the previous closing level of 71,909.70, and climbed up by over 600 points during early trade. At 10:06 AM, the Sensex was trading up by 0.62% to 72,359.72, while the Nifty 50 rallied by 0.56% to 22,545.25.

The recovery was across the board, with 13 out of 16 significant sectors posting gains. The Nifty Bank and financial services indices posted gains of 0.8%, whereas the PSU Bank index posted gains of 1.7%. Meanwhile, the IT index posted gains of 1.1%. Mid- and small-cap stocks rallied 0.8% and 0.6%, respectively. On the contrary, the Sensex had declined by 570.59 points or 0.79% to close at 71,909.70, while the Nifty had fallen by 198.50 points or 0.88% to close at 22,421.95
