By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 2: ‘Shree Bijjo Bhoot’, a play rooted in the social and cultural life of Sudurpaschim, brings together love, separation, migration, humour, satire and pain against the backdrop of rural Nepal.
Presented by Mandala Theatre, in collaboration with young artists’ group Suvakasha, the play is based on the local belief and cultural tradition surrounding ‘Shree Bijjo Bhoot’ in the Ningla area of Dadeldhura.
The central character of story is Gauri, a young woman who has spent years waiting for her father, who left for India in search of work and never returned.
Gauri remains hopeful whenever someone comes to the village saying they have seen her father in India. Her innocence and longing make her believe even uncertain stories about him.
She is also waiting for the man she loves, who has been away for years. As she continues to wait, village gossip grows around her. Her relatives also bring marriage proposals, putting more pressure on her.
Her life changes when Hari, a man who has returned from Mumbai, approaches her. Gauri sees him as an elder brother, but Hari has other intentions. He tells her that he can take her to India and help her find her father.
