Netflix’s Take Charge of My Heart brings a different twist to the romantic comedy genre where falling in love is not just about emotions but also about keeping someone’s heart beating. Starring Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin, the Korean series combines romance, fantasy, family tensions and a little workplace drama. Its unusual premise gives the story an interesting starting point, while the two lead characters bring their own struggles to the relationship.
But a fresh concept alone cannot carry an entire series. While Take Charge of My Heart has the ingredients for an enjoyable romantic comedy, its familiar love story raises questions about how much it brings to a genre that already has plenty of similar shows.
What Is Take Charge Of My Heart About?
The story follows Baek Ho-rang (Kim Young-kwang), a wealthy business heir whose life depends on an artificial heart with a battery that is running out. He is also dealing with the pressure of taking over his family’s business, leaving him with little room for mistakes.

Things take an unexpected turn when he meets Na Bo-bae (Chae Soo-bin), a screenwriter who has lived with a rather unusual problem since being struck by lightning as a child. Her body carries an electrical charge which makes physical contact with other people difficult. As a result, she has kept her distance from relationships and has little personal experience to draw on when writing romance.
Ho-rang discovers that Bo-bae’s electricity can recharge his artificial heart without harming him. The two strike a deal: she will help keep his heart going for three months, while he will help her experience the romantic moments she needs for her writing. What begins as an arrangement based on necessity gradually develops into something more personal.
As their relationship progresses, family rivalries, professional ambitions and other romantic interests complicate their lives. The series has 10 episodes, all available on Netflix.
