The United States Treasury Department announced on 1 October 2026 that it had completed the automatic enrolment of more than 60 million American children into Trump Accounts — tax-advantaged investment accounts created under the landmark One Big Beautiful Bill Act — in what officials described as the largest single expansion of child wealth-building infrastructure in the country’s history.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the completion of automatic enrolment marked a transformative milestone. “Millions of children have already enrolled in Trump Accounts. With automatic enrollment, over 60 million more eligible children now have an account ready to be claimed,” Bessent said in a statement. “This is a transformative milestone in the Trump Administration’s effort to give every American child the opportunity to build generational wealth and jump-start their financial future.”
The announcement, made exclusively to CNBC, came three days after the Treasury published temporary regulations on 29 September initiating the automatic enrolment process. The regulations, published on Tuesday, could increase the number of children enrolled in Trump Accounts in 2026 by more than 60 million, with future years potentially adding about two million accounts annually.

Trump Accounts: What Are Trump Accounts And Where Did They Come From?
Trump Accounts were authorised in law by the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act and became available in July 2026. Also known as 530A accounts or Invest America accounts, they are tax-advantaged investment accounts open to any US child under the age of 18 who holds a valid Social Security number. The accounts officially launched on 4 July 2026, the 250th anniversary of American independence, and began accepting contributions from that date.
The legislative architecture for the accounts was assembled by Representative Jason Smith of Missouri, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, who championed the child investment provision within the broader tax and spending bill.
Every child born under this policy will have a better shot at a future. The Trump investment accounts will be a game changer for new parents. Even before their newborn baby can walk or talk, their child will have money saved to one day learn a trade, start a business or to buy a home, Smith wrote.
US President Donald Trump described Trump Accounts as “the first, I guess, you could say, real trust funds for every American child.” Children born between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2028 are eligible to receive a $1,000 seed deposit from the US government, though automatic enrolment alone does not trigger that deposit, parents or guardians must actively claim the account to unlock it.
Trump Accounts: How Does A Parent Claim Their Child’s Automatically Enrolled Account?
To claim the account, parents or guardians must download the Trump Accounts app, verify their identity and relationship to the child, review the account information and accept the account terms, according to the Treasury. The app was launched on 28 May 2026, several weeks before the accounts began accepting contributions on 4 July.
Automatic enrolment alone will not trigger the $1,000 deposit. Parents must complete the claims process through the app to access any government seed funding or philanthropic contributions made on behalf of their child. The Treasury has emphasised that the automatic enrolment is designed to ensure no eligible child is excluded by inaction or lack of awareness, rather than to replace the active claims step.
