US-Israel-Iran War Latest Live News: US Approves New Arms Sales To UAE And Kuwait
The United States has approved major defence sales to Gulf partners as regional tensions remain elevated. The State Department approved a possible sale of precision-guidance equipment to the UAE and a separate Patriot missile-system support package for Kuwait. The combined US approvals involving Egypt, Kuwait and the UAE were reported at more than $2 billion.
For the UAE, the proposed package includes up to 10,000 guidance sections for the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System. The system is designed to turn unguided rockets into precision-guided munitions and can be used for missions including countering drones. The capability could offer Gulf states another option for dealing with relatively low-cost aerial threats without necessarily relying on more expensive missile interceptors.
The US State Department said the UAE package would strengthen the country’s self-defence capabilities, improve interoperability with US forces and support Washington’s security objectives with a major defence partner.
Kuwait Gets $400 Million Patriot Missile Support Deal
Washington has also approved a possible $400 million agreement with Kuwait covering repair and return services for Patriot missile systems.
The Patriot system forms part of Kuwait’s air-defence capabilities and has been used in the region against missile and drone threats. The US said the proposed agreement would strengthen Kuwait’s homeland defence capabilities.
The latest approvals come as Gulf states face heightened security risks amid the continuing conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel.
