US Stock Market Prediction: Wall Street enters Monday, October 5, with investors assessing whether Friday’s strong rally can continue after a weaker-than-expected US jobs report reduced expectations for another Federal Reserve interest-rate hike this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite all finished higher on Friday, while investors will now turn their attention to fresh economic data, Treasury yields, oil prices and the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook.

The Dow Jones gained 0.49% on Friday to close at 51,176.96, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.73% to 7,722.72. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.19% to 27,190.86. The Nasdaq briefly reached a record level during the session before giving back some gains.

US Stock Market Prediction Monday: What To Expect

US stock market futures are closed over the weekend and will reopen on Sunday evening ahead of Monday’s regular session. The latest Friday settlement showed S&P 500 futures up 0.68%, Nasdaq 100 futures up 0.94% and Dow futures up 0.46%. These futures moves provide an indication of sentiment but do not guarantee where the indexes will open or finish on Monday.

Investors are likely to focus on whether the softer labor-market data continues to support equities or whether concerns about inflation, Treasury yields and geopolitical tensions limit further gains.

Dow Jones Prediction Monday

The Dow Jones could remain sensitive to interest-rate expectations and movements in Treasury yields when trading resumes Monday. The index gained 250.40 points, or 0.49%, on Friday to finish at 51,176.96 after the September employment report showed much weaker hiring than expected.

The latest Dow futures settlement was around 51,477, up 0.46%. A positive futures signal could provide support at the opening bell, although investors will still need to assess economic data and bond-market moves during the session.

S&P 500 Prediction Monday

The S&P 500 finished Friday at 7,722.72, gaining 0.73% and moving back to within roughly 1% of its record high. The index benefited from expectations that weaker employment conditions could make the Federal Reserve less inclined to raise interest rates again in October.

S&P 500 futures last settled about 0.68% higher at 7,777. If that sentiment holds when futures reopen Sunday, the benchmark could begin Monday on a firmer footing. However, a rise in Treasury yields or renewed strength in oil prices could put pressure on risk assets.

Nasdaq Prediction Monday

The Nasdaq may remain one of the key indexes to watch because technology and growth stocks tend to be particularly sensitive to changes in interest-rate expectations. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.19% on Friday to 27,190.86, outperforming the Dow and S&P 500.
