Valtteri Bottas took an unusual route to this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, swapping the cockpit for a bicycle and pedalling 420 km from Malaysia’s Sepang through rural roads, dirt tracks and jungle terrain. The Cadillac driver’s journey came with encounters with cobras, pythons, giant lizards, cows and even a chasing dog.

An avid cyclist, Bottas arrived in Singapore in time for Thursday’s media commitments at the Marina Bay Circuit after spending days traversing Malaysia on two wheels instead of taking the short flight. Fans followed his journey on social media, while Malaysian gravel cyclists helped him plan his route and a support vehicle stayed nearby.

“I saw some snakes, which I was a little bit worried about, but actually they were pretty chill. They were just doing their thing,” Bottas told reporters.
