Avalanche at Himlung Himal leaves 15 dead, one missing

KATHMANDU: Fifteen people have died and one remains missing following a massive avalanche in the Himlung Himal region of Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality-5, Manang. The incident occurred on the night of Sept. 27 at approximately 12:45 a.m., burying 27 Nepali workers.

The group, consisting of 21 employees from Himalaya Holiday Company and six from Imaging Nepal, had departed Kathmandu on Sept. 18 to establish a base camp in the region. Following the avalanche, search and rescue teams successfully recovered 11 survivors, while 16 individuals were initially reported missing. Rescuers have since recovered 15 bodies.
