Six people aboard a medical transport aircraft that disappeared while flying from Bermuda to Boston are presumed dead, according to the company operating the flight.

The US Coast Guard called off its search for survivors on Sunday evening after debris from the aircraft was found off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The plane was carrying four Canadian nationals and two Bermudian nationals.

What happened to the medical aircraft?

The Gulfstream G-100, operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, left Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport at around 11:40 pm local time on Friday. It was scheduled to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport at about 1:30 am Saturday.

The Federal Aviation Administration lost contact with the aircraft shortly after 1 am local time. Authorities later located a debris field in the area, which was confirmed to have come from the missing aircraft.

Latitude Air Ambulance said four members of its team, along with the patient and the patient’s family escort, were presumed dead.
