For the Serb seat, Zeljka Cvijanovic of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats was leading her rivals. Cvijanovic is also a close political ally of Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, who remained a major figure in the campaign despite being barred from holding public office.
Darijana Filipovic of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina was leading the contest for the Croat seat.
The three-member presidency represents Bosnia’s three main constituent peoples and forms a central part of the country’s political system established after the 1992-95 war. Preliminary results remained subject to further counting and verification.
