Bosnia Elections Result Live Updates: Bosnia and Herzegovina’s latest election has once again placed the country’s deep political divisions under the spotlight, with pro-Russia Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik declaring victory for his party despite being barred from holding public office. His political camp secured a strong position in the vote, while his ally Zeljka Cvijanovic led the race for the Serb seat on Bosnia’s three-member presidency.

The result comes at a sensitive time for the Balkan country as it struggles with economic problems, stalled European Union integration and long-running disputes between its Bosniak, Serb and Croat communities.

Bosnia Elections Result Live Updates: Milorad Dodik Claims Victory

Dodik dominated the campaign even though he was not a candidate. The former president of Republika Srpska has remained one of the most influential figures in Bosnian Serb politics and has repeatedly challenged the authority of Bosnia’s central institutions.

After the vote, Dodik said his Alliance of Independent Social Democrats would secure a “vast majority” in the Republika Srpska assembly. He also credited U.S. President Donald Trump’s “magnificent victory” in 2024 and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s support for his party’s performance.

“No one should ask us to change our politics,” Dodik said. “We will not give up, but continue for our people … I cannot believe that we smashed it like this.”

Dodik has continued to advocate greater autonomy for Republika Srpska and has used separatist rhetoric that has raised concerns about Bosnia’s political stability. His close relationship with Moscow has also made him an important figure in the wider contest between Russian and Western influence in the Balkans.

Dodik’s political influence was reflected in the performance of Zeljka Cvijanovic, a senior figure in his SNSD party. With most votes counted, Cvijanovic had secured more than 55% of the vote for the Serb position on Bosnia’s tripartite presidency, giving her a sizeable lead over her closest rivals. Current preliminary results also show Cvijanovic ahead with about 55.3%.
