Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhes Fast Track is not just another road project in Nepal; it’s a game-changing investment in infrastructure. Hoped to transform the nation’s travel, trade, and tourism, the project is expected to usher in a new era of development, providing a direct high-speed road link between Kathmandu and the southern plains. In the context that the Expressway, once completed, connects Kathmandu, the capital, with Nijgadh in Bara, where a massive international airport is in the works, the project holds special significance. It is regarded as strategically important because it will provide Kathmandu with an alternative direct road connection to the southern plains and the capital. Given that the only highway presently connecting the two places is highly prone to disruption as a result of recurring landslides, floods and other natural hazards, the new highway promises safer and much faster travel.
