Every time there is a big flood in Nepal, it seems that we go through the same painful cycle. Heart-breaking images of families being evacuated from their homes, roads being washed away and communities struggling to recover. For a few days everybody is talking about the disaster. There are rescue efforts, donations, promises that next time things will be different. But as the water recedes and life slowly returns to normal, so do our attentions. See you in the next disaster.

The recent floods in Nepal are not just another unfortunate event soon to be forgotten. They should make us stop and ask an uncomfortable question: how ready are we for the future? However, today, unpredictable rainfall, floods, landslides and changing weather patterns are more common. Climate change used to be a far-off problem for the world, but now we see and feel it all around us.
