By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 7: A nighttime chariot procession of the goddesses Dakshinkali, Nilbarahi and Indrayani was held on Monday night in Pharping as part of the historic Harishankar Jatra. Observed on Asoj Krishna Dashami, locally known as Chhoyla Bhu, the procession continues throughout the night, with residents staying awake to witness and celebrate the festival.
The night takes on a festive atmosphere as people from different neighborhoods gather along the procession route. Houses are illuminated with traditional lamps and lights, creating a scene resembling Dipawali as the decorated chariots pass through the streets. Residents light lamps at their windows, while devotees gather to receive blessings and observe traditional rituals.
Traditionally, the chariot of Dakshinkali is carried by members of the Balami community from Tipitole and Thasigaun. The Balami from Tipitole carry the chariot at the front, while those from Thasigaun carry it from the rear. Similarly, the chariot of Nilbarahi is carried by the Balami communities of Thalkhutole and Phulchok, with Thalkhutole at the front and Phulchok at the back part, said Pritamraj Rajopadhyaya, a royal priest (Rajpurohit) of Pharping in Dakshinkali Municipality.
