Houston Weather News: Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast through Sunday in Southeast Texas by the National Weather Service (NWS) Houston/Galveston, with the better chances for storms near the coast. Locally heavy rainfall and localised flooding are a greater threat to Galveston and other coastal communities, with scattered showers and storms also possible in portions of Houston and farther inland. As the frontal boundary moves offshore, cooler and drier conditions are expected to develop Monday into midweek, forecasters said.
Houston Weather News: How long will heavy rain continue across Houston?
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to remain possible through Sunday evening as the stalled front slowly moves offshore. The heaviest downpours are expected mainly along the Gulf Coast and south of I-10, where repeated rainfall could increase the risk of localised flooding. The National Weather Service’s Houston/Galveston office has also highlighted the possibility of locally heavy rain and flash flooding, particularly in coastal areas.
Which Areas Are Most Affected by the Weather?
The areas facing the greatest chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms include Galveston, League City, Texas City, La Porte, Seabrook, Kemah, Baytown, Pasadena, Pearland, Friendswood and Alvin. The National Weather Service (NWS) Houston/Galveston says rain and storm chances are highest closer to the coast, while areas farther inland are expected to see generally lower rain chances.
