Kathmandu, Oct 3 : Nepali telecommunications and ICT expert Ananda Raj Khanal has been appointed Head of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area Office for South Asia and Innovation Centre in New Delhi, India.
Khanal brings more than three decades of experience in telecommunications, ICT, digital transformation, public policy, regulation, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and innovation. He will be leading ITU's engagement with Member States and stakeholders in South Asia from the organisation's New Delhi office.
The ITU Area Office and Innovation Centre in New Delhi was established in partnership with the Government of India and inaugurated in March 2023. The office serves as an important regional platform for digital transformation, advanced technologies, ICT infrastructure, capacity development, innovation and partnerships. ITU currently lists Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka among the countries covered by the New Delhi Area Office.
