The Election Commission of India has announced the complete schedule for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, including the polling and counting dates. The constituency will vote in a single phase, with the result scheduled to be declared after counting.
Nagaon Election 2026: When Is Voting?
According to the Election Commission’s schedule, polling for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll will take place on October 6, 2026. Voting will be conducted from 7 AM to 6 PM, giving eligible voters the full polling window to cast their ballots.
The Election Commission has also scheduled counting of votes for October 9, 2026. The election process is required to be completed by October 11.

Why Is There a Nagaon Lok Sabha Bypoll?
The Nagaon parliamentary seat became vacant following the resignation of former Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi. Bordoloi, who represented Nagaon in the Lok Sabha after winning the 2024 general election, subsequently joined the BJP and was elected to the Assam Assembly from Dispur.
The Election Commission has therefore scheduled a by-election to fill the vacant Nagaon Lok Sabha seat.
Nagaon Election 2026 Candidates: Who Is Contesting?
The Election Commission’s final list contains 15 contesting candidates for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll. The prominent candidates include Devasish Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), and Sibamoni Bora of the Indian National Congress.
The final list also includes candidates from other registered political parties and independent candidates. According to the published Form 7A, there are nine independent candidates in the contest.
