KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has stated that Congress must serve as a bridge connecting democracy with direct public service and tangible results.
He remarked that despite long political struggles and transformations in the country, all political parties must now join together to seriously review issues such as job creation, stopping youth emigration, and improving the people’s standard of living.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, Thapa noted that the current political situation—where a government has been formed under the leadership of the Rastriya Swatantra Party—should also be viewed in connection with the past political journey.
“Why did we endure conflict for 35 years? The same thing happened during the peace process. Within these very 35 years, every village was emptied. Why were there no jobs? Why did the youth migrate?” Thapa questioned.
Pointing out that even though the nation endured prolonged political struggle and transition, the fruits of those changes have not adequately reached the daily lives of the people, he said all political parties must collectively seek the causes.
He emphasized that economic and social transformation must be pursued alongside political change.
