Spanish Politics: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced that his country will undergo a snap general election on November 29. Sanchez made the announcement in a televised address. 

Spanish Politics: Pedro Sanchez’s Announcement 

Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has announced a snap general election for November 29, 2026, moving up a vote that was originally anticipated in 2027. “It’s up to you now. A quick glance at the horizon shows us that the world is in a very complex era of transformation and transition.” he shared in a high profile televised address this morning. 

“I have faith in my fellow citizens because I know you are a brave and compassionate people who rise to meet challenges and are unafraid to be the first, or the only ones, to step up and stand on the right side of history”, Sánchez added.

In defense of the decision, the prime minister stated that Spain needed to renew public backing for his government. He further admitted that his administration had committed errors and had not fulfilled some of its pledges. “We need to renew people’s support,” the leader who has been in power since 2018 admitted frankly. He described the upcoming elections as a choice between his progressive political agenda and the conservative right.
