Yemen’s internationally recognised government has described its ongoing military offensive against the Iran-aligned Houthis as a “new phase in the battle to restore the state”, as fighting intensifies around the strategically important Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
Yemen Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said the operation is aimed at expanding state authority across the country and reclaiming strategic land, islands and positions. The offensive comes amid the wider regional escalation linked to the US-Israel war with Iran.
