West Bengal School Holiday Today, October 6, 2026: Schools in the state of West Bengal are being verified as to whether they have been opened or not on Tuesday as West Bengal is holding elections in the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituencies. Polling has been scheduled for October 6, while vote counting will take place on October 9. The government of West Bengal has declared October 6 as a holiday in government offices and schools situated within the two constituencies.

The schools situated in the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituency areas are closed today (October 6), owing to the bye-election however, it is not a school holiday in the state of West Bengal. The weather is yet another thing to watch out for. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata of the India Meteorological Department, there has been an issuance of thunderstorm and lightning warning for Gangetic West Bengal dated October 6. 

There are similar thunderstorm and lightning warnings for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. The weather warning is independent of the holiday announced due to the election. The school which is not located within the two bypoll constituencies should not be automatically assumed to be closed.
