India head coach Gautam Gambhir has found himself facing plenty of questions over his selection decisions, with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becoming the latest name at the centre of the discussion. With Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma currently forming India’s preferred opening combination in T20Is, Sooryavanshi’s chances have been limited despite his form. Gambhir revealed that he has spoken directly to the 15-year-old batter, explaining the team dynamics and why regular opportunities may not always be possible, even when a player is performing well.

Gambhir also stressed that Sooryavanshi needs to be patient and wait for his chances, telling the youngster that opportunities do not always come immediately. The teenager has already created history this year, becoming the youngest Indian to make his international debut when he played his first T20I against England at 15 years and 99 days, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record. He later added another milestone by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in men’s international cricket, reaching the mark against Zimbabwe at 15 years and 118 days.

Gautam Gambhir Reveals Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Is Waiting for His T20I Chance

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has finally addressed the growing questions around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s limited opportunities in the T20I side. The 15-year-old has made headlines with his performances, but with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma doing well as the opening combination, his chances have remained limited. Gambhir revealed that he had spoken to Sooryavanshi about the situation and explained that even being in good form does not always guarantee an immediate place in the playing XI. “It was a new experience for me as well. Yes, he was in good form, but I made him understand that sometimes, because of the players who have done well for a long time, he will have to wait for his opportunity,” Gambhir said.
