One of my acquaintances shared her sad story with me. She was supposed to defend her research proposal to pursue her PhD but unfortunately the proposal was rejected by the university research committee. The reason was simple - almost all of her writing was done by AI (Artificial Intelligence), which is swallowing the whole world at the present time. If we look back at the history of AI, it goes back to the 1950s but its use at that time was limited. Since then, it has been in existence in different forms. However, AI was not easily accessible to all in the past. As soon as in late 2022, its use became prolific by the public release of ChatGPT. Now, millions of people all around the world can access different AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and many others to use for different purposes, and Nepal is not an exception.
Basically, students from primary school level up to university level are massively attracted to the use of AI tools to complete their homework, assignments or even research work. This has started to create problems and the concerned ones opened up discussion series for the same. They seem worried, as a majority of people are seen to depend heavily on AI even for their simple tasks, which may damage their creativity or thinking power. They do not bother to use their brain to answer very simple questions as well. Whenever a problem arises, they immediately turn to AI for an instant solution.
Power of AI
Sensing the power of AI tools, many countries have recently restricted or blocked their use. Such countries include China, Russia, North Korea, Iran or Cuba. There is no doubt that technology has changed our lives in many ways but its excessive use can be harmful to us. Eugenia Rho talks about a recent survey conducted by Forbes. The survey indicated that many Americans still trust humans over AI by a large percentage. Those surveyed shared that they think people would do a better job of administering medicine, writing laws, and even choosing gifts than many others. This finding may apply to people from other countries too.
