India wrapped up its Asian Games 2026 campaign in Aichi-Nagoya with 21 gold medals, with the men’s hockey team adding the final gold after defeating Malaysia in the title clash on Saturday. The performance also helped India secure Olympic qualification spots for LA 2028, with gold-medal finishes in archery and hockey contributing to the country’s qualification tally. Before the Games, five sports — hockey, archery, tennis, squash and surfing — offered qualification opportunities through Asian Games gold, and India has now secured quotas in four disciplines.
India’s overall medal haul stood at 85 medals, comprising 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze across 21 sports. Athletics led the way with 24 medals, including one gold, nine silver and 14 bronze, while shooting produced 15 medals with three golds. Archery added nine medals, including five gold, while boxing and wrestling contributed six each. Cricket, hockey and kabaddi each won two gold medals, with India also collecting medals in golf, squash, sailing, weightlifting, wushu, badminton, kurash, mixed martial arts, rowing, sepaktakraw, soft tennis and table tennis. Here’s a look at the Indian teams and disciplines that have secured their places for the LA 2028 Olympics.
