The return of high-profile cricket to Kashmir has given the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium a historic moment, as Jammu & Kashmir takes on Rest of India in the prestigious Irani Cup from October 1 to 5. The occasion is significant for more than just cricket. The same stadium has previously witnessed an India West Indies international match. After a long gap, top level cricket has once again returned to the Valley, with some of the biggest names in Indian cricket taking the field in Srinagar.

Jammu & Kashmir won the toss and opted to field first, with Rishabh Pant leading the Rest of India side. Several players in the Rest of India squad have featured for the Indian national team, giving local cricket fans an opportunity to watch some of the country’s leading players on home soil. But the bigger story is the transformation of Jammu & Kashmir cricket itself. J&K recently created history by winning the Ranji Trophy for the first time, turning what had long been a dream into reality.
