Geological study carried out in landslide-hit areas of Myagdi

By Thakur Prasad Acharya, Myagdi (Beni), Oct. 6: A team of geologists has conducted field studies of 26 landslide-hit areas in Myagdi that were affected by monsoon-related disasters. 

The team from the Nepal Geological Society carried out the study in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), visiting 26 landslide-affected sites in Beni Municipality and Raghuganga Rural Municipality.

The landslides triggered by incessant rainfall from September 24 to 27 have posed a high risk to settlements in the affected areas.

According to Surat KC, Mayor of Beni Municipality, the team led by Nepal Geological Society President Bhaskar Khatiwada studied 22 landslide sites in Beni and four in Raghuganga Rural Municipality. Six geologists divided into three groups conducted the study on Saturday and Sunday in the presence of representatives of the concerned local governments.

The team studied landslides at Bhasbhase, Khabara, Lovely Hill, Hadebhir, Tallo Musung, Chinakhet, Bhukbhuke, Chhepare, Singa Tatopani, Agebagar, Arthunge, Andheri Gaira, Jamreni, Jamunakharka, Maharani Than, Bhyau-ni Khola, Barah Pakho, the slope above Prakash Secondary School, Kharenipakho, Jaleshwar, Galeshwar and Toripani in Beni Municipality, and at Harkharka, Barkharka, Majhkharka and Kalleni in Raghuganga Rural Municipality.
