By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 7: Nepali Congress president Gagan Kumar Thapa has registered his candidacy for the post of party president at the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress.
Thapa reached the City Hall at 6:05 pm on Tuesday and registered his candidacy.
The election committee extended the deadline for filing nominations until 7 pm, citing heavy rainfall and the possibility that some aspirants
might have been unable to reach the venue on time.
Similarly, Kishore Singh Rathore and Shyam Krishna Khadgi have also filed their candidacy for the post of president.
A total of 7,114 general convention representatives are eligible to elect the new party leadership. The nomination process for the new Central Working Committee began at the National Assembly Hall on Tuesday. The election committee had initially scheduled nomination registration from 12:30 pm to 4 pm.
The party has increased the size of its Central Working Committee from 167 to 297 members and the number of office-bearers from 14 to 26 under the amended statute endorsed by the closed session on Monday.
