The New York Yankees’ season came to a frustrating end on Wednesday night as the Tampa Bay Rays won 4-3 at Yankee Stadium to complete a three-game sweep in the American League Division Series. The biggest talking point came in the sixth inning, when fan interference overturned what initially appeared to be a game-tying two-run homer from Anthony Volpe.
Rookie Victor Mesa Jr. then delivered the decisive blow for Tampa Bay, crushing a two-run homer in the sixth inning to put the Rays ahead. The victory sent Tampa Bay into the American League Championship Series for only the third time in franchise history, while the Yankees suffered their first-ever three-game sweep in a division series.
